reMarkable Paper Pro Review: My First Impressions
It’s been a couple of weeks, and we finally got our hands on the brand-new Remarkable Paper Pro. From the moment I first saw it, I was excited to explore this highly anticipated device. A few months ago, I even shared a video where we discussed our predictions for what the Remarkable 3 might look like, and now, with the release of the third-generation Remarkable Paper Pro, it’s time to see how reality measures up to those expectations.
We gathered plenty of feedback from users and enthusiasts about what they wanted in the next version of the Remarkable tablet. If you’re curious, check out the comments on our previous video — there’s a great conversation with lots of ideas. So, when the Remarkable Paper Pro was finally unveiled, I was thrilled, but also a little disappointed in certain aspects.
Unboxing the Remarkable Paper Pro: What Stands Out?
During the unboxing, the first things that caught my attention were the form factor, the larger display, and the slight edging on the device. The keyboard folio was a great addition; its design is sleek and functional. But what really intrigued me were the two standout features: a backlit display and the introduction of color. These were some of the most requested features from the community, and I’m excited to see them finally implemented.
The device also includes a new writing pencil, a faster screen, and overall improved performance. Whether you’re navigating through PDFs, typing on the keyboard, or simply flipping through digital pages, the speed of this device is noticeably better than previous versions.
The Pros and Cons: Is It the Right Device for You?
After spending a few days with the Remarkable Paper Pro, there are many features I love, but I might not consider it my primary device for all uses. (If you’re on the fence about which device to choose, be sure to check out our comparison of the Remarkable 2 vs. the Paper Pro. We break down the pros and cons of each device to help you decide which one is best suited to your needs.)
For me, as a digital planner user, this device has some major updates that stand out. The backlit display (yes, finally!!) allows for comfortable use in any lighting condition, and the addition of color makes it easier to incorporate time-blocking, highlight important tasks, and enhance graphs or notes. These features help me organize my thoughts and ideas more effectively, giving my planning process a boost.
A Distraction-Free Device for Maximum Focus
One thing I’ve always appreciated about the Remarkable line is its commitment to being a distraction-free device. With so many tools at our fingertips on smartphones, tablets, and laptops, it’s easy to get sidetracked. The Remarkable Paper Pro offers a space to collect and nurture ideas without being bombarded by notifications or app distractions. It’s a tool that truly helps me stay focused and clear about my goals.

Room for Improvement: What’s Missing?
While the updates to the Remarkable Paper Pro are meaningful and push the product forward, there’s still room for improvement. For example, I was a bit disappointed that the device doesn’t support third-party apps like Kindle. Although you can upload books to the Remarkable, having access to my Kindle library directly on the device, like I can with the Onyx Boox, would have been a game-changer. That said, I understand the company’s focus on maintaining a distraction-free experience, which is why they’ve limited app integrations.
Final Thoughts: The Future of Remarkable Paper Pro
Overall, I’m excited about the direction the Remarkable Paper Pro is heading, especially with its improved display, backlighting, and color features. However, the real test will be how it holds up over the next few years, as competition in the digital planning and e-ink tablet space continues to grow.
